This Friday edition of RLGL touches on the basketball game shown above, previews the NBA season, and crowns another Bonehead Athlete of the Week. Also, some discussion on the NFL's strange doublestandards.
I think I'm going to have to agree to disagree. I didn't pick the Celtics because they won the champioship. I picked them because they kept the core of their team together... We all know that there's a list of the super talented player's in the league. And sometimes if you put 'em together the shit doesn't work and they cancel each other out because they don't play together. When the Celtics picked up my man Jesus (Ray Allen), and KJ, two of the most talented players who had never been realistic contenders for championships. The Celtics had a team that has a all the tools to do well, but none of the talent (Paul Pierce excluded)and I saw a flash of the mid 90's Bulls, sans Jordan. So what did the Celtics do in the off season, they LOST ONLY ONE PLAYER.... Any mid season aquisitions are icing on the cake. Its not a hard analysis but it doesn't means its a bad one. History indicates that good teams can 3peat when they keep their core together. Im not predicting a championship but tight work on their part. All these other trades won't mean anyhting until the players step on the court and work together.
All solid points, Ramon. And if I made it sound like I was in any way discrediting either the Celtics or the Lakers, that wasn't my intention. I just know that a lot of pundits have picked those two teams at the beginning of the season because they were the easy pick to make. Kinda like, "I have no idea who's going to be good. I'll just pick one of the teams that were in the Finals."
I do believe that both teams have a solid shot at getting back there. However, I also feel that the end of October is waaayyy to early to really choose who you see in the Finals, when no one's played five games yet. Personally, I like to wait til around the end of December when I've seen all the teams play. Then I can draw my assumption based on some actual evidence.
Well sir being a new member I'm a bit late, but I had a couple comments...#1 how come no one likened what Lebron has done (i.e. demands to acquire better players to improve the team) to Chad Ocho Cinco's initial demands to the Bengals? The Cavs made an attempt to better themselves and Lebron remains America's darling but the Bengals did nothing but get worse therefore Chad asked for a trade, just because he dances after touchdowns the team can't take him serious?? Anyhow point number 2 is just a bit of a correction that the Rodriguez kid at Portland isnt a rookie but he's just now getting a look. His agents in Spain actually demanded a trade because he had improved and wasn't getting any tick, but thanks to injuries he's getting some time now. Very insightful blog kid keep it up...
First off, LeBron is not Mr. Ocho Cinco, for a number of reasons. The biggest difference, of course, is talent. LeBron is one of the top 2 or 3 players in his sport. Chad Johnson? Not even close. That alone makes his opinion count for a lot more. Not to mention, Chad switched his stance up a bunch of times, first complaining, then pretending like it was cool, then bitching again. It got to the point where even Bengals fans were tired of dealing with him. You also have to think that there's a difference between a team that recently got to the Finals, and a team that was good for like two seasons, and sucked for all the rest. One might even argue that the best player on the Bengals is Carson Palmer, not Chad. No one listens to wide receivers; they're perceived as selfish loudmouths (thanks, T.O.).
Second, I don't know about Rodriguez, but Rudy Fernandez is the truth.

Appreciate the love.

Chad Johnson is definitely top 5 wide receivers...not this season, but in general, no question. The rest of it is correct though
